Paradoxically Me
Anita Pierce, Gray, TN

A very serious person, I.  Yet, frequently silly.  Why?
It’s because I’m outgoing; but, I often feel quite shy.

Personality Type “A” to be sure; extroverted!
But, wait, my heart says:  “Oh no, I’m introverted!”

Give me designer clothes, and a style that’s striking!
Yet, most wonderful feeling’s from denim; reclining!

Bible-belt rearing, taught ‘Southern tradition . . .
so, why more at ease in board room than kitchen?

Two-point five children; white picket fence days . . .
that dream changed with Steinam and Roe versus Wade.

Flower child of the sixties; friends dying in Nam;
nineties’ inner-child chaos displays external calm.

Scream for equality; head high and determined . . .
but, divorce, sans man, I still feel uncertain.

Fine wine and gourmet cuisine excite my pallet . . .
so does cornbread from Mom’s cast-iron skillet!

Perhaps the old song best spoke for my soul –
“I’m a little bit country, and a bit rock and roll!”

I’m cosmopolitan, anchored by traces of “rural” . . .
Bottom-line is:  “I’m a LIBERATED, OLD-FASHIONED GIRL!”
